70th Anniversary Regatta and Waveney Class Championships

WOBYC is celebrating its 70th Anniversary with a 2-day regatta on 2nd-3rd July. As well as a busy racing programme (see below), there will be a Hog Roast and Jazz Band on the Saturday evening and tea and cakes on Sunday afternoon. It will be a great opportunity to meet up with old friends. It would also be nice to see some old boats on the water. Over the years Oulton Raters, Oulton Gulls, Norfolk Dinghies, National 12s, Merlin Rockets, Enterprises, Fireballs and Mirror Dinghies have played an important part in the Club’s history but now we only see them rarely (apart from Eric’s Catastrophe of course!) It would be fun to see them sailing again here this summer.

For more information (and tickets for the Hog Roast) contact Ian Colby on 01493 856433 or email ian.colby@ntlworld.com .

Joe Drake – 2nd in  Topper Nationals

Another terrific result for Joe Drake, coming 2nd in the 2015 Topper Nationals at Weymouth. He was leading during the early stages of the championships but just missed out on top spot after some tricky races late on. Arabella Sabberton also did really well finishing as 9th girl and 3rd in the ’14 years and under’ category.

Topper Worlds

Well done Joe Drake in finishing 9th overall in the 2015 Topper World Championships at Lake Garda in Italy. Arabella Sabberton also made it into the Gold Fleet, finishing 40th. Total entry 160 boats!

Congratulations to Nick Crickmore – RS Vareo National Champion 2015

Nick has won the RS Vareo Nationals held at Dovey Y.C. in Wales.

Phil Plant Race 2015

Saturday 18th July at 16.00hs. This is an Allcomers handicap race. It’s run as an ‘average lap’ race; faster boats are likely to sail more laps than slower ones. The race will last approx 45 minutes. When the shorten course flag is flown, you will finish next time you complete a lap.

Work parties

Every week:

Monday mornings from 10.00 – grass cutting and maintenance in the dinghy park

Friday mornings from 10.00 – general maintenance in and around the clubhouse

Volunteers always most welcome!

Congratulations Joe Drake – 2nd overall in Topper Inlands

Two WOBYC junior sailors competed in the 2015 Topper Inland Championships at Grafham Water on 2nd-3rd May. In a fleet of 152 boats Joe Drake finished 2nd and Arabella Sabberton  41st.

Broadland Youth Team Racing Regatta at NBYC April 18th 2015

Well done to the WOBYC team of Thomas Betts, Evan Clough, Joe Drake, Bethany Hood, Edward Nourse and James Nourse – 4th overall.
