Sailing at WOBYC

Racing

Organised racing is held at WOBYC for dinghies and keelboats all 52 weeks of the year. During the summer months, racing is held on Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings, and Wednesday evenings, while racing is only held on Sunday mornings in the winter. Separate races are held for fast and slow handicap dinghies all year around, allowing a more relaxed entry into club racing for our junior fleet, and the Keelboat fleets also enjoy split, class only racing during the summer months as well as mixed Keelboat races. Although most of our racing occurs on Oulton Broad, river races are also held throughout the summer.

The highlight of our racing calendar is Oulton Week which occurs yearly in the last full week of August and is always well attended by club members and visitors alike.

For more information, see the Sailing Instructions and Racing Programme.

Training

Junior sailing lessons kick off in late May with our Whitsun training week and continue throughout the summer. We also run occasional beginners races for our newer sailors on Saturdays as well as during Oulton Week. Race coaching sessions for our more experienced juniors continues later into the autumn.

Social Sailing

If social sailing is more your thing, enjoy joining us during our summer picnic river trips to Somerleyton. Wednesday evening racing is also much more relaxed, if you fancy a more casual sail around the course.
